Senior School curriculum
The King's School offers a broad curriculum that is organised into three stages: Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8), Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) and Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12). Scholars' classes will continue to be offered in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. These classes will extend and enrich boys in areas of their talent and/or their gifts, and students placed in each class will be reviewed on a regular basis. Students will continue to undertake courses of study in each of the Key Learning Areas in Stage 4. It is also a year during which students not only develop knowledge and understanding in the content of each course undertaken, but also the skills required to measure each student's achievement based on the syllabus outcomes.
Subjects for Year 8 are:
- Personal Development Health and Physical Education
- Biblical Studies (The King's School requirement)
- Technology (Mandatory)
Classes in English, History, Geography, PDHPE and Biblical Studies may be linked.
Two electives must be chosen from:
- Agricultural Technology
- Chinese (Mandarin)
- Industrial Technology
- Information Software & Technology
- Visual Arts
Students who have displayed an aptitude for languages in Year 7 are encouraged to continue with their language in Year 8, as the study of one of Chinese, French or German in Year 8 is a pre-requisite for its study in Years 9 and 10. Students should seek advice from the Director of Studies and the Head of Languages when considering studying two languages. Students may also enrol in a language, other than those offered at King's, at Open High School, after consultation with the Head of Languages.
