Spotlight On: 2025 Executive Monitors

On the first day of Term 4, The King’s School hosts its annual Commissioning Service of the new Monitors led by the School Captain and Vice Captain for next year.

This service marks the students’ induction into formalised leadership positions of the School, with the six carefully selected Executive Monitors charged with leading the way for their cohort and the School over the coming 12 months.

The 2025 Executive Monitors of The King’s School are Captain James Napoli, Vice Captain Oscar Hill, Executive Monitor for Academics Aidan Tran, Executive Monitor for Character Will Farrah, Executive Monitor for Community Sam Molineux and Executive Monitor for Chaplaincy Rory Crocker.

Head of Senior School, Reverend Stephen Edwards, said James’ appointment to School Captain was attributed to his wide-ranging support from his Class of 2025 peers, the monitorial team and staff members.

“James is a humble, calm young man who seeks to serve the School and promote others before himself. We have confidence that he will bring out the best in the Monitors,” said Rev Edwards.

Director of Character Development and Leadership, Mr David Idstein, added that James was a “modern leader – in that he empowers those around him to be the best they can be” and believed he understood the need to be strategic in building common goals and support the action towards these common goals.

Along with his role as Vice Captain of the School, Oscar has also been appointed as Adjutant of The King’s School Cadet Corps, a sign of his leadership credentials having not just been acknowledged by his peers but also by Corps staff.

Rev Edwards commented that Oscar is “a reliable and warm individual who gets things done. He shows plenty of initiative and is always keen to get others involved in causes that support the School and its mission”.

Mr Idstein added Oscar “has a heart for service”, along with being an “extremely well organised and proactive young man”.

Not only excelling in the classroom, Executive Monitor for Academics Aidan has also made the most of the opportunities King’s provides away from the classroom.

“From coxing a crew in rowing to performing on the stage in musicals and plays, running cross-country, to playing in numerous bands and having a leading position in Cadets, Aidan can not get enough,” said Rev Edwards.

“He will be a wonderful example to our boys of building your character through co-curricular activities, which will have a positive impact on their academics.”

Having already played in the 1st XV rugby team and rowed in the 1st VIII, Executive Monitor for Character Will is a highly respected athlete. However, Rev Edwards added, “he is more respected for his integrity and desire to build a strong community where every boy can thrive”.

Flourishing as part of our boarding community, Mr Idstein said “Will leads by example and wants the best for those around him and the whole school.”

“When he speaks everyone listens. He balances his busy school life across the boarding and day school, and academics and sport, which is a fine example for younger students.”

“Will is mature beyond his years and engages well with both staff and students which will allow him to be that crucial conduit between the School leadership team and students,” commented Mr Idstein.

A key member of the Student Representative Council (SRC), Executive Monitor for Community Sam, has already played a key role in developing the King’s community, according to Rev Edwards.

“Sam is a respectful and thoughtful young man who is part of our boarding community but also has a positive connection with many day boys. He has a strong sense of the King’s community and wants others to experience the same,” said Rev Edwards.

Mr Idstein added, “Sam typifies a Kingsman and is the sort of young man we all hope that our children and family are mates with. Sam has led by example through his work in the SRC helping to build a student voice and continuing to grow our inclusive and safe environment at King’s.”

Having joined The King’s School in Year 9, the sixth member of the 2025 Executive Monitors, Executive Monitor for Chaplaincy Rory has displayed a commitment to the Christian ethos and School values throughout his time at King’s.

“Rory is a delightful young man with a strong Christian character. He is very talented and we have enjoyed his performances in musicals and the theatre. Rory is passionate to not only encourage boys to understand what it means to be part of a Christian school, but also to provide opportunities if boys want to engage with the Christian faith further,” said Rev Edwards.

We look forward to seeing the influence and impact the Class of 2025 has on The King’s School with these six men, along with their fellow School Monitors, leading the School.
