The King's School General Counsel & Company Secretary

The King’s School is Australia’s oldest independent school and enjoys a peaceful setting in the heart of Australia’s largest city. On the Parramatta campus, it offers education to boys from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 12. King’s is one of the largest boarding schools in Australia, with links to the rural sector along with a very significant enrolment from the city as day boys and weekly boarders. The Tudor House campus, located in the heart of the Southern Highlands, is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme school for girls and boys.

The General Counsel reports to the Headmaster.  The General Counsel will take a holistic approach to the continuous evolution of The King’s School to be a modern, risk management and compliance focussed business.  The General Counsel is an expert, trusted advisor and leader who helps the School mitigate its legal risks by providing exceptional legal services. The General Counsel will provide significant support to peer executives to allow them to manage their way through legal and compliance issues within the range of their primary responsibilities.

The Company Secretary aspect of the role is equally interesting. The role of the School Council is critical, and as the oldest independent School in Australia, governed by Synod Ordinances and its own Act of the NSW Parliament therefore slightly unusual. The Company Secretary will provide a mixture of advisory and administrative support to the School Council, in a period of increasing regulatory, legal and social licence obligations. The Council of The King’s School, its operating Committees and the members of the subsidiary Boards are composed of high-profile clerical, rural and industry participants and the Company Secretary will be an important support to the School Council in fulfilling all of its responsibilities.
