Athletics at The King's School

The School competes in the AAGPS competition, with the major carnival being the AAGPS Athletics Championships held annually at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. A Highlight of the school calendar, students from all GPS schools attend, to form a crowd of close to 10,000 spectators.

Coaching is of the highest standard in all disciplines. International standard and highly experienced mentors specialise in all fields of endeavour with the athletes - a number of whom develop to compete through regional, state and national level and ultimately represent at World Youth Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games with great distinction.

The School has a very strong and proud tradition in Athletics and King's was the inaugural winner of both the first Senior Shield in 1891 and the first Junior Trophy in 1912. In more recent times there has been great success, with the School taking out the coveted “double” of both junior and senior competitions in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The first class facilities available to the boys within the School ensure that they can be well prepared and at peak fitness for the range of competitions that they enter. Variation and cross training is encouraged and this program develops a capability within to perform under pressure in all environments. The combination of sand hills, bush tracks and the strength and conditioning room all lead to success on the track and in the field.

The athletics staff aim to give all students at our school the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities so that they can reach their potential. Regardless of the standard of the athlete, our program embraces any student wishing to compete in athletics with the aim of enjoyment, friendship and character development being at the forefront of our coaching philosophy.
