Chairman's letter 2017
21st December 2016
Dear Parents and Friends of The King’s School,
On behalf of the School Council, I would like to thank you for your generous support of the school. The King’s School is very much a community, made possible by its families, staff, old boys, past parents and friends.
The School Council is committed to advancing the academic, co-curricular, pastoral and Christian life of the School. The operations of the school are overseen by a dedicated and skilled management team and staff, so wonderfully led by the Headmaster Dr Hawkes.
As I write the 2016 HSC results are to hand and represent a wonderful tribute to the academic environment of the school, the dedication and professionalism of our staff and the collective and individual achievements of the year 12 boys. The school has achieved its highest HSC ranking with position 30, record band 6 results and record numbers of students achieving a state ranking in various subjects. This combines with the outstanding NAPLAN results released earlier this term.
The school’s co-curricular activities are very important for the boys and so much part of the King’s offering. There is an extraordinary diversity of pursuits which challenge, enhance skills and give cause for great celebration across the sporting, cultural and leadership areas.
The School Council and School Management Executive continue to plan and think strategically, review performance and keep abreast of emerging issues. The school is very conscious that a King’s education should be of a very high standard, provide diverse opportunities and in partnership with the parents, prepare the boys for life in the broadest sense.
The King’s School is a not-for-profit organisation, which manages its finances prudently and conservatively to ensure financial sustainability. There is a commitment to attracting and retaining the best academic staff and to continuously improving facilities in all areas of the school.
There continues to be a significant building program. This year we completed the Macarthur Waddy Boarding House and at the Preparatory School, the Pavilion project was completed and opened at the start of this year.
We very much understand the significant sacrifices many parents make in sending their sons to King’s. The fee increase for 2017 has been set at 4% for tuition and 4% for boarding.
In 2016 there have been many highlights to celebrate at both the individual and collective level. As we look forward to 2017, may I wish you a happy and holy Christmas, a refreshing and safe holiday period.
