Transforming Lives through Education
There is significant pressure on independent schools to answer critics who prefer to regard schools such as King's as elitist in attitude and poor in academic results. As a non-selective school, King's is particularly vulnerable to such misinformed views.
However, as a means of ensuring that a balanced intake of students is maintained, and academic standards promoted, The King's School Foundation has embarked on an ambitious fundraising programme to develop a comprehensive bursaries and scholarship fund. The aim of the programme is to establish a significant number of bursaries for students of genuine all round potential.
Each year from 1957 to 1987 is providing a "guiding hand" to assist in the fundraising process. They will act as "champions" for the programme, which, it is hoped, will promulgate sufficient funds over the next few years to establish a maximum number of bursaries. It is envisaged that each year raising the target amounts will have the bursary or scholarship named for their year, or perhaps for a fellow alumnus, in memoriam. The campaign, is structured to enable each School year to contribute funds that would enable such bursaries and scholarships to become "in perpetuity" awards.
The cash and pledges received for the campaign so far are shown in the table below. The generosity of the School's Old Boys is evident in their willingness to donate to a campaign designed to transform the lives of boys whose parents would otherwise be unable to afford to send them to The King's School.
Contributions to such bursaries and scholarships are tax deductible
